Hi Ashley,
What would be your needs on this website. Do you want it to be a blog, a E-commerce website, membership site?

Usually this is the process:
1. Purchase Domain Name ~ I usually use Godaddy.com
2. Purchase Hosting ~I like Hostgator.com
3. Change DNS from Domain Registrar to Server on Hosting.
4. Create web pages on new host ~ you can use free website builder software, or free templates for this. Some people also like to use Dreamweaver on their desktop, but that software can be pretty expensive. Site Source 101 will be releasing an update to the site builder that we now offer.

Depending on your needs, I can create some video training for you. Just let me know.

Wow, there are many things that I would be needing. Thank you for that helpful tips Matt. =) I'm taking a note of them.

Since I love making accessories and my hobby is writing, I want a blog and I also want an e-commerce site. Is it possible to have it both?

Cool, I'll inform you when I need training videos. Thanks again.

Hi. I am Sid.

I am new here but I know a lot about this field. Been building website since early 2004.

This website offers a lot of help but here is what I know from my personal experience.

1. A domain name. I go through http://www.godaddy.com. I have use other companies before but I like this one the BEST because of their excellent customer service. I have been a member with them for over 3 years now.

2. A hosting account. You need a place to put your website on the web at. I also use Go Daddy for this as well.

Basically, all you need can be found at http://www.godaddy.com. I am more advance in the field and don't use all their options but for a newbie, they can help you out a lot.

For More Advance Users:

3. HTML Editor. Like Dreamweaver, CoffeeCup HTML Editor, Advance Version of Notepad, and ect.

4. FTP Program. Like FTP Eplorer, FileZilla, Cute FTP, and ect.

These are the basics. There are other programs that are nice to have as well like image editors, script creators, and ect. There are too many to list.

I hope this helps out.

Sid

Yes, you can have a blog on your website and also have an ecommerce system. Most ecommerce websites have blogs as a subdirectory. like www.ecommercesite.com/blog/. Usually they would use a blog for a place to write news or updates on the business or products.

Wordpress also has ecommerce plugins such as : WP-commerce

If you just want to accept checks and process orders through paypal standard, than that process is pretty easy. If you want to process credit cards on your website, than you need to make sure to have a dedicated ip, SSL certificate, and make sure to have your website PCI compliant. Also, to avoid the issues with dedicated IP's, SSL and PCI compliance... you can go with a 3rd party ecommerce system like 1shoppingcart.com, but with them you will loose a lot of flexibility.
Hope that helps,
Matt
