Have you ever been to a website, seen something you wanted but didn't get it? Why didn't you? Was it because you needed to talk it over with the spouse? You were skeptical? You wanted to search around and see if you could find a better price? Didn't have enough money?
Ask yourself all those questions as regarding your site. If you are giving your customers any reason not to buy from YOU, then you need to evaluate what you are doing wrong. If your product is over the $200 mark, which is the "honey talk" threshold (honey we need to talk about it), then you may need to evaluate your price point. Maybe offer free shipping, no taxes, a longer money back guarantee, etc. If you are stuck at that price due to being a drop shipper or affiliate, either look into a different program, or think if a payment plan would be feasible.
Were you skeptical of a product? That means you need more information. On your site, make sure that all the categories of things people would want to know about are clearly labeled. Testimonials is always a popular page or resource. People love to hear how other people loved a product so much they bought 5. Another reason you could have been skeptical, is because the site or the "vibe" from the website was like a car salesman. If your site looks like this: BIG red nasty headline about an AMAZING product or service, a sales page that is 10 feet long and talking about your 100% money back-no-quibble-no-hassles-no- questions-asked-or-we-give-you-200%-back, then change your site. Test it, but people don't want to buy snake oil.
If you are in a tight market with 1000s of competitors, you need to keep people from looking elsewhere by your points of difference. You need to explain to them whatever it is that you need to explain to them, whether its your color product is better than the "other guy", that you have the best price (that will keep people), that you have the best service, whatever it is, it needs to be different, needs to make you stand out, and needs to let the person at your site know that they want to do business with you.
Another problem is the price. If you have a product at $55.95, I can guarantee you that if you drop the price to $49, you'll sell a ton more. People have a mental hang at $50. There's another one at over $20, over $100, then over $1000 and definitely at the six figure mark. Do not, do not, do not price things slightly over these price points. You'll sell more $55.95 things at $75 than $55.95. Another thing to consider is what it looks like. Do everything you can to not use cents. Sometimes you want to use cents in the site, but $19.97 looks bigger than just saying $20. It can look like $1,997 if you look the wrong way, and psychologically its worse. How much is Site Source 101 again?
You may want to look into getting a payment plan in place, you may want to do a lot of things, but leave no excuses when it comes to someone coming to your site, plastic in hand. If you can't get a dollar, get an name an email. Thats just as good.
